You should have a copy of your Independent book today  (October 25)

The quarter ends on Friday (tomorrow). I will not accept any late work after TODAY, Thursday, Oct. 25. Hand in any late work to me IN PERSON. TODAY. I will be in the library from 4:00 to 6:00 PM today. Find me. If that’s not possible, turn things in to my box by 9:00 AM Friday OCT. 26

     1.   Get reading/dialogue journal instructions for Independent Book Project. Review and discuss.

     2.   Map out your reading goals with this bookmark / SSR 

     3.    Finish reading 3 “Winning College Essays” and then, individually, evaluate one of the essays in the packet of “Winning” essays and explain (on the back of the graphic organizer) what qualities you think contributed to the essay opening the door to the school to which it was directed. Use specific examples from the essay to support your ideas 

     4.   Share your evaluations in small groups. 

    HOMEWORK DUE TUESDAY, October 30: write a 500-650 word essay that is polished and thoroughly developed. (See handout for details.)

      BRING YOUR INDEPENDENT BOOK TO CLASS EVERY DAY FOR SSR!!!
